I’ve been trying to come up with something clever and biting regarding the rollout of the B&R release and, really, I just can’t find the effort to actually care.
Sure, a(nother) blue and white Dunk SB that everyone just has to have, nothing about this release made me feel like it was for me. I didn’t know the dude, didn’t know the brand and the only time I ‘identify’ with LA is when I’m overseas. And…there’s just so many blue and white shoes (do I really need another one?)
I do find it curious, tho, as to how many people’s hearts were broken when they didn’t end up catching a W. Like did you really think you would? 😂
I don’t know if it’s mostly kids or resellers or someone else that did all the bellyaching about this release but it really just made me feel more (happily) disconnected than ever.
Looking back - it looked like exploitation from every angle…Nike exploited the brand by trying to show how ‘down’ they are with little brands, and then they exploited the founders death to drive additional attention to the release. The brand exploited their own backdoor, and left a lot of their regulars empty handed. And then the resellers came in with their usual bitching about how they didn’t get all that many opportunities to exploit anyone…just…a mess.
I can’t even look at these shoes without thinking of the circus surrounding them…and it’s unfortunate that it seems is how a lot of things go at this point. Everyone is just using everyone to get what they want…
Anyway, not sure I can give anything better than that. It’s just a shame because it really feels like it’s just another wasted opportunity at lifting up the little guy…and nobody involved actually gives a sh*t about the little guy.
