The last pair of shoes I got for Christmas was in 1999: it was a pair of Black and Blue Air Max Plus’. I asked my mom to cop them for me from Eastbay and she did and when they didn’t fit right and I asked her if she could return them for me, she said ‘this is too much of hassle buy your own shoes from now on.’ So that’s what I did.
Over the years - I’ve never wanted anyone to buy me shoes and that’s because I don’t want anyone to be responsible for my hoarding tendencies and I don’t want anyone to feel like they’re just giving me ‘another pair of shoes’ for my pile. I also know that I’d feel bad for someone to drop $200 on a pair of shoes for me that I could find later on down the line for $60 or whatever…so…I dunno. Almost *no* shoe is worth that amount to me unless I’ve thought long and hard about it. I guess I just don’t want other people meddling in my messy consumerist hobby.
So I’ve come to cherish other things - Nike gift cards are always a good option. But. I tend to stay away from sneakers as gifts. I give them to those that are usually ambivalent about sneakers but I would never give a sneakerhead some sneakers for Christmas 😂
