I think part of the beauty of dunks is their simplicity - it’s become a bit of a basic design over the years…so when a new collab comes on the scene it almost always feels like they’re reaching.
If Nike asked me to do a collab colorway or design, I know I’d have a real tough time doing it - how could anyone possibly live up to the expectations that have been baked into dunk culture with anything new?
I look at a lot of these new colorways and I’m not drawn to them. At all. Because, I feel like, they’re just overdone and people are running out of ideas.
This isn’t a knock on anything in particular, but I think my brain just doesn’t have any room for any more dunks, regardless of what they are or represent.
Blasphemy, I know.
But look at the first futura dunk - simple blue grey and white and a banger at the time. At this point, it’s almost impossible to follow up. I like the canvas idea but…I dunno.
