I know I’ve kinda touched on it in the past, but I don’t know if I’ve ever fully explained it…I basically do online authentications as orders come in..on any given day it can be anywhere from 0-150 orders. But whatever it is, it takes me around 45 seconds to authenticate the vast majority of sneakers that I get orders for, but sometimes a pair can take me a couple of days to work through…so. Typically, I set aside about an hour a day to get through all of my orders. This month, I banged through approximately 2095 pairs of shoes…and the results were interesting…I’ll share with you some of the more interesting data over the next few days, but starting here…this should give you a good idea of what I’m working with:
Adidas: 44 pairs (2%)
Jordan: 1174 pairs (56%)
Nike: 692 pairs (33%)
Nike/Jordan Fusion: 6 pairs (0.29%)
Yeezy: 165 (8%)
Other Brands (Converse, Off-White, Balenciaga): 14 pairs (0.67%)
I’m assuming that my customers are quite different than StockX and eBay customers, but…do you think the range of what I got is representative of the need for authentication market as a whole, or more just my customers? Personally, I’d think that this is probably a pretty good representation of the market as a whole…thinking…56% of ‘sneakerhead sneakers’ are Jordans, 33% are Nike, and the rest are a randomization of Yeezys and Other brands…what do ya’ll think?
Also, I guess an interesting question would be…what do you think makes up the average ‘collection’? I’d guess that my collection is probably something more like…. 65% Nike, 10% Jordan, 25% Others….Also with grand over-arching questions, it also makes me wonder what the actual pool of ALL sneakers PRODUCED over the past 20 years… does it represent a similar percentage of what I’m authenticating?
