With news of an Air Max 1 x Supreme collab …I sorta cringed and had to think about why that was my reaction…
Maybe 15 years ago I would have been really interested in this collaboration, but at this point…how could supreme live up to the expectations we’ve come to expect from an Air Max 1? I mean, sure, there’s gotta be 10 million color ways for the AM1 with a solid 70% of them being just pure trash (eye of the beholder)…but how do you top what’s already at the top?
There’s a reason the AM1 is as popular as it is…and to think that Supreme has a chance to put their spin on it now makes me feel like the more expectations we put on it the worse it’s gonna end up being.
It’s gotta be tough trying to come with something new and exciting for the collaboration releases, but how do you keep the excitement and energy on a shoe that’s been done 7908230 times already?
And…furthermore…isn’t this kinda like…the opposite of what people said Supreme typically does with Nike collaborations? Ie: Isn’t supreme supposed to bring attention to oft-forgotten models? I dunno y’all…I dunno.
