If we were deep in the throes of the boredom that came to represent the 2021 collectors boom, this might be an easy way to explain how and in what world people were going this crazy for some white and yellow Jordan 17’s with a retail price of $300…
Fat Joe addressing the situations left more questions than answers, and I didn’t understand why anyone was paying attention until I realized it was HIS store that people were going crazy at. IMO, he kinda threw his hands up in the air as well tho, like ‘I got no idea what’s really going on either’.
Two things, I think, explain this situation for me:
1. Sneakerheads from the heights and the Bronx are just built different. Remember NT all-star @ninjahood_ ? I have a couple of good friends from the Bronx (not many) and…yea…I don’t understand their sneaker logic in the context of the greater market. Sure, when someone sits down and explains to me why they want what they want - I get it. But overall it’s a just a unique market.
That being said…
2. I’m washed and don’t understand how anyone over the age of 18 can care about any one specific pair of shoes THIS much.
I’ve been in a couple of those lines and they never got that crazy but we’ve seen this before: Nike and JB have cultivated a following in which previous sales-rack shoes are in high demand… first time I saw it was with the Jordan V ‘grape’ retro in like 08/09 and again with the olive 9 release in 2012 - these original shoes literally sat on sales racks for YEARS before becoming cult classics…
All that to say - I never thought these 17’s would sell out, let alone cause a scene like the above. Goes to show how little I actually know…
Anyway - what am I missing? What do you attribute this madness to?
