I see some version of this sentiment every few days and I’ve gotta thank my lucky stars that this is currently Nikes shortfall. I’ve heard it argued a lot lately and it was definitely amplified by that @kaicenat signing a while back (what were they thinking 😂)..thanks again to @russbengtson for putting it so succinctly.
You can easily say I’m a 50 year old nerd (I’m a tad bit younger) still trying to chase ‘cool’ and it’s a fact I have kids and I’m happy as hell these kids aren’t hitting me up for Nikes due to some perfectly placed marketing campaign that makes them feel inadequate without a sneaker purchase…
As much as I love sneakers and the folks I’ve met and continue to meet, I feel like a lot of it was just what WE built around THEIR marketing and programming…
At times I have felt out of control and completely loyal to them and their message despite myself…I often feel that without Nike directly marketing to me as a kid I would have turned out a MUCH different person…not necessarily better or worse but different…and I sometimes wish the marketing came from a place of something other than consumption..
So, yea, I’m thankful they haven’t figured out our kids ‘buy’ triggers yet. I hope they continue to fail. If only because of where we’ve found ourselves…
