Talk about a product line *perfect* for ‘going viral’…that old hybrid era of Nikes and Air Maxes and Jordans came and went before they really had much of a chance to cement themselves as a mainstay in the culture…
The idea, IMO, was solid (y’all see how many hybrids me and @sailboatsupplies be working on 😂) but I don’t know if the sneaker world was really ready for it. While most of the general public was looking for cultural mainstays and those singularly recognizable silhouettes, the designers at Nike had different ideas…
I come across about a pair of these a week and some of them I’m not even sure *should* exist…like that ‘Grey Nurse’ pair (last slide)…like…wut?
Overall I think the execution was solid, they just released too many in a short amount of time. Folks got confused and it came off more like a gimmick than anything. Imagine if they released one per year…feels like that coulda worked.
Makes me think…if Nike and JB waited 20 years and started them rolling out in the social media era, John Donahue might still be CEO 😂
