Yea yea I know most of y’all weren’t alive in 1987 and many who were could t really trade stocks 😂
But I had this crazy thought the other day when observing my OG Air Max 1’s and thought about what I would do if I got the chance to travel back in time to the day they were released…would I have bought a single pair? A full size run? A whole storage unit? Why, tho?
Tbh I kinda hate sneaker stewardship. I have a couple of personal pairs I will watch and enjoy watching disintegrate to dust, but other than that…I think holding onto sneakers until the end of time just isn’t my bag, baby.
So I googled…original retail for air max 1’s was $77, and the price of Nikes stock was less than a dollar (around 20 cents). If I took that $77 and purchased that amount in Nike stock instead spending it on shoes AND I held it through the all the ups and downs and the stock splits and reinvested the dividends and etc etc etc…I’d be holding onto about $5,500,000 in Nike stock today. Thats $5.5m…vs…a crumbling pile of fabric and leather and rubber…
The perishabilty of sneakers makes me so hesitant to call them investments…although…there is certainly money to be made…crazy tho, huh?
