I’ve often struggled with that term ‘sneaker collector’, because I never really knew if that’s something I should consider myself. Fact is, I do collect sneakers, but I’m not sure I collect them in the sense that one might get if you thought you were meeting a sneaker collector who was going to ‘wow’ you with the monetary value of their collection.
And, usually, if I do have something that would ‘wow’ somebody, I’d almost rather get rid of it for fear of the perishability of the item…
Most of my collection is just stuff I wear and stuff I like. Nothing worth obscene amounts of money really.
But it makes me wonder how Nike views us. Maybe they know that shoes are perishable and shoes don’t really make for good collectibles. Maybe they know we (mostly) have a shelf life in this hobby, unlike a lot of others…maybe they know that they can appeal to our sense of nostalgia and longing a lot easier than our sense of the future…or…maybe not. Maybe they just exist to pacify us in that way that only a pair of shoes can…
I think k it’s interesting what they’ve done with rereleasing a lot of these grails and I don’t hate it. Is SB next?
