Back about 10-15 years ago, fakes were a different story. They were horrible monstrosities with crap material, weak glue, poor stitching and rock hard soles. Today, fakes are usually the SAME or even BETTER quality than authentic pairs. Nike and Jordan Brand specifically are selling an inferior product with lax quality control in order to maintain market control.

In my humble opinion - if I had two pairs of shoes and there were minor manufacturing differences as displayed in this story - I’d probably focus more on the craftsmanship and quality than I would the font on the tag and the color of the footbed stitching. I’m also of the opinion that @nike and @jumpman23 and @adidas could relatively easily stop the bootlegs if they wanted to (just insert an RFID chip tied to the blockchain on each authentic pair like @chronicled does and it simply can’t be faked), but I think bootlegging actually feeds the hype. These companies don’t have much incentive to pay that additional cost.
