One more for good measure…      The Kobe IX, in my mind, was a dud. I owned a few pairs but really didn’t like the silhouette - to me, it reminded me of a late 90’s skate shoe - it looked clunky IMO.

The Kobe IX, in my mind, was a dud. I owned a few pairs but really didn’t like the silhouette - to me, it reminded me of a late 90’s skate shoe - it looked clunky IMO. Nothing about it looked sleek, and I really like either super simple or super sleek. The Kobe IX was neither.  
  
The X looked like it had wheels. That super fat sole looked great and the upper looked minimal. As such, I went out and bought a couple of pairs at retail (‘Blackout’, which was purple for some reason), and the General Green (just a cool colorway IMO). I then came across this dude who was doing Elite High Chops - he’d take an Elite high, chop it off and turn it into a low for $99.99. I searched for a pair of WTK X’s, found it, and sent it in...dude got it back to me quickly and I loved how it turned out. After a few months of them just sitting in my closet - I had my dude Peter @ten11.oak put them on consignment and I’ve never seen them again :(  After all that - I picked up THREE pairs of the leather Elite Highs and actually rock those pretty often, especially on rainy days.  X’s have proven to be one of the pairs I’ve worn quite a bit...I don’t know that I’ll ever sell the Black/Gum Elite High’s I have… 
 
The pic on the front - there’s a guy standing on the left. That’s one of my best friends from college - the guy I talked about on IG Live with @mjo23dan earlier today - the biggest Kobe fan I know. He’s not much of a sneaker collector, but he owns more Kobe shoes than most sneakerheads I know. He’s not on IG but said I could share the pic. He made the pilgrimage to the Staples Center shortly after the tragedy and wore his X’s in remembrance...this pic is from that day. He’s got a cool set of cards headed his way here shortly...
