Looking at authentication accounts the other day and saw this in the search results… a $5 account outdone by a $4 account...I started looking for a $3 account... 
 
It reminded me of that scene in ‘Something about Mary’: 7 Minute abs.  
 
I charge $25 for my legit checks...probably more than most companies. I do this for a few reasons: 
#1: I spend a LOT of time researching when I’m doing a tough pair of shoes. I’ve been known to spend hours or even days on a specific pair. The amount of effort that went into that pair of $21k Jeters XIs - I shoulda been paid a kings ransom for that.  
#2: I think the whole ‘real vs. fake’ argument is played out. It’s a hell of a thing when fake manufacturers are doing a better job than real. I think if Nike or Adidas cared enough about it, they’d do something, but they don’t - so why should I?  
#3: My reputation is tied up in what I’m checking. I made this mistake one time - I glanced at a pair of shoes someone sent me and didn’t do my due diligence and dude came back showing me proof I was wrong. It was an inconsequential pair of shoes and I was just being lazy. I sent his money back immediately, but at that point the damage was already done. My name is forever ruined in that customers mind.  
#4: I HATE legit checking shoes. I hate it. I think it’s dumb and should really only be reserved for super highly collectible sneakers. Unfortunately, not all that many people really actively purchase what I tend to think of as highly collectible sneakers, so I’m stuck looking at pair after pair of Yeezy earth tones.  
 
All of this to say - there are no quick fixes to authentication. If you’re paying $3 for authentication you’re probably gonna get what you pay for.
