Recap: Streetwear guy @warrenlotas puts out his own dunk shoe in classic dunk colorways but with a twist - they have a slightly different swoosh. WL gets away with releasing 3 of said models. Goes for a 4th and damn near breaks the internet with everybody and their mother trying to murder one another over their opinions. Nike decides to sue him. He goes dark for 10+ days. Then drops an email with the consolation prize: ‘The Reaper’, a pencil, a T shirt, and a bumper sticker. LOL.

I dunno, y’all, I dunno.

I wish I had access to the numbers. I really wish I knew how many pre-orders he got. Then I could make sense of it. Looking at it from his point of view...there was no way he could continue along the route he had chosen. Nike was poised to eat him for breakfast. I assumed he was just going to fold and issue refunds and focus on his other stuff. Based on the amount of conversation he generated - I’m assuming he had more than a few thousand orders...and at $300/each...that’s a lot of money. I don’t know though, I have no context. Based on the amount of attention his actions garnered - I kind of assumed he’d be pulling in a cool milli once it was all said and done.

If it were me - I would have folded immediately. “Yes, your honor, I understand.” Good business decision to pivot. I wasn’t expecting this ‘replacement offering’, I was expecting straight refunds. Hard to let go of all that cash, though.

Personally, I’m not feeling these, but they look more in line with his aesthetic. I think it’s a better incorporation of the theme and his larger ‘body of work.’ I think the scythe looks kinda dope but the reflective reaper looks very out of place IMO. But they carry a story. And sometimes the story is more important...because sneakerheads buy stories just as often as they buy shoes.

What do y’all think? How many pre-orders do you think he processed? How many people are going to want a refund? No matter what, there will always be an interesting story behind these shoes - but will anybody care in 5 years?
