What’s one of the more obscure pair of shoes in your collection? Obviously the type of stuff that @obscuresneakers posts is way outta left field...but...like...what do you own or care about that no one else owns (nor cares about)?
For me it’s gotta be these Air Force Lites.
There was a time, like 20 years ago, that I was wondering why Nike and Jordan didn’t take classic models and update them. For example...why didn’t they take a Jordan III and put new, up-to-date tech in the soles? Couldn’t they keep the uppers relatively the same while using something a bit...sleeker...for the soles? In my head I imagined 2-part soles (kind like the 29) on a III upper.
They’ve definitely done similar things in later years (think of every single Air Max model on top of a 360 or Vapormax sole) and it didn’t always go well, but why couldn’t they do it with Jordans or Basketball shoes?
In the case of the Air Force Lite - they kinda did it. And I recognized it the first time I saw it in an East Bay catalog. I was always on the lookout for Air Force 1’s (they WERE NOT popular in the mountains of Northern California when I was growing up) so these immediately caught my eye. It’s not exactly an air force 1, but it looked like a court-ready version. And they took that bulky, one piece sole and updated it with the times (yes, this was pretty ‘with the times’ when it came out in 1997-98).
I’ve always been on the lookout for various colorways of this shoe, preferably those that aren’t light colored, and I saw these the other day at Goodwill for $30 and just had to grab ‘em. Size 7 (way too small), but I’ve only come across a couple pairs in the past 20 years.
Anyway, that’s one of my obscure pairs that no one besides me cares about...
