It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the comic-book style sneaker art that @sonsofblackmaria has been putting out. I think I’ve shared at least 4 or 5 of his covers on my story and (hopefully) drove a few new people towards his account. I think his art is original and it’s super nostalgic and it’s very interesting. To me, at least. I’m assuming anyone who was also into baseball cards/comic books and sneakers during the 80’s and 90’s would also find it interesting.
Well, he hit me up the other day and sent me some screenshots of emails that he received from redbubble...his artwork was pulled down. I don’t totally understand how or why his stuff got pulled down, but it seems to be an extension of what’s going on with @warrenlotas and his lawsuit with Nike. Maybe Nike requested it or maybe Redbubble acted pre-emptively, but why is Nike focused on imitations and creative extensions instead of outright trademark violators? Why aren’t they chasing down the companies that are making ACTUAL FAKES of their shoes?
I find it really ironic that the biggest clothing company in the world - that was basically built under similar auspices - is trying to squash out the little people who actually MADE this market what it is today. In the midst of a pandemic, massive layoffs, widespread unemployment...they’re trying to stifle the creativity that’s made Nike what it is…
Can’t y’all find the actual bootleggers and FAKE manufacturers? Why in the hell are y’all bothering with people making tributes to your products? I don’t get it….
