When I was explaining the whole ‘eBay going the way of StockX’ thing a few posts ago, I was reminded of politics...in general, democrats want more government as they feel it allows for greater control on what transpires behind closed doors. Republicans want *less* government as they feel it allows for increased personal accountability.

And I was thinking...goddam...I sound like a sneaker republican…advocating for the freedom from the resale government…

It’s not even that I’m against resale or reselling - I’ve been reselling sneakers for 19 years. I don’t resell sneakers for anything more than funding my next purchase. There was a time it was really lucrative for me, but then it became all about weight and pushing numbers and that’s where they lost me...I’ve never been able to purchase a sneaker I wouldn’t wear myself.

What I’m against - is someone telling me what is acceptable or not acceptable about my purchase or my sale, especially if they get money based on whatever decision they make.

Remember - these companies are INCENTIVIZED to complete any and every sale that enters their warehouse. When I did my 9 part series on that pair of $21k Jeter XI’s that I believe to be fake, I asked my good buddy at @redwoodsf why @stockx wouldn’t accept or acknowledge their mistake and he said ‘they’re clearing $2k as a middleman on that pair.’ Damn. The funny thing is - nearly 2 years later - I had my contact at Nike reach out to the dude who created them. His response? “With that small of a quantity they would all be 100% the same in materials.” What does that mean? It means based on the photos that I was provided - the pair in question was undoubtedly fake. A pair of shoes that sold for $21k on the ‘most trusted sneaker marketplace’ was indeed a pair of fakes.

The point I keep getting back to - if you love sneakers - learn about them and teach yourself what you need to know. The info is out there. Don’t trust ANYBODY who is promising a quick solution - definitely don’t trust anybody who claims they know what the hell is going on (including me) 😂
