(2/3) About 40 minutes outside of Indianapolis, Indiana, exists a large warehouse called XPO Logistics, which works with another small company called ‘Nike’. The name of their center is called ‘Nike Rebound’ and they’re basically one of the THE main return centers for customers and wholesale retailers.
What is a return center? Apparently it’s everything from you and I buying shoes at a retailer or Nike.com and returning them within the return window to an address that’s different than where they came from. OR, a return could be someone like Footlocker who wasn’t able to see certain shoes and wanted to make room for new releases. Maybe some customers cancelled their orders mid-transit, or...the product was shipped to someone who moved. Or, one of you assholes cancelled someone elses order when they decided to floss their order confirmation page on IG and forgot to hide the order number lol
What happens with those returns? Well, places like Marshalls or TJ Maxx or Ross’ or Burlington Coat Factory buy up massive quantities of the more generic/general releases (this is how a lot of those Fragment 1’s ended up at some of these discount retailers a few years ago). A lot of this stuff ends up just sitting at the return center until Nike or someone else figures out what to do with them.
Some shoes are ‘graded’ (not like ‘graded’ like I grade shoes), but they determine whether or not some of these shoes need to get destroyed or donated to Salvation Army or other charities.
You’d expect a place like Nike Rebound to be full of crap that nobody really wants, but...as this dude told me...you’d be surprised at what turns up from time to time...he sent me several pics of Jordans that didn’t pan out (over the year), so one can assume cancellations occurred when people saw resale wasn’t going to be lit...but...
