The Sneaker Savant

Got the idea of the comparison image from @sneakerlawfirm ... was kinda debating on whether or not to put the Virgil quote on the image ("one might create a new design by changing an original by three per cent") or the @russbengtson tweet and decided to go with Russ. I want y'all youngn's to hear from a few of us older collectors who've been there before.

I've gotten plenty of DMs regarding this point exactly - how do I feel about luxury brands biting Nike designs? I don't know. I do know that creating a sneaker has natural limits, though, and some of those limits are unavoidable. Like...back in the day, Christian Louboutin @louboutinworld legally TRADEMARKED red soles. Like...how in the hell would any court allow a corporation to TRADEMARK a COLOR? Maybe @sneakerlawfirm has some input on that. That's the kind of stuff that irks me.

IMO...inspiration is a tricky thing. If you look at the main things I do - sneaker grading, sneaker preservation, and sneaker trading cards - one could reasonably argue that the things that inspired me to create those products is 'biting'. Or...is it? I don't know how people perceive my products. I honestly don't know. And...more importantly...I don't know if I care. I know that when I'm creating some of these cards and taking shape to some of these ideas, inspiration is what keeps me moving.

So...that begs the question...is @virgilabloh biting with these? What do you think? If you hated on @warrenlotas or any of the other companies creating slight variations on the Jordan or Dunk silhouette, but you're ok with these - why?
