For those of us old enough to remember this happening the first time...if this happens again it’s pretty normal. It’s to be expected. And a brand like Nike *knows about it and plans for it and probably plans for it’s rise and demise. Very rarely does any shoe have the lasting power something like the Jordan 1 has had over the last few years. And dunks are no exception. I feel like their peak (for this round) really was with the Chunky Dunk and things have been trickling downhill since then…
@nikesb is going to continue with some crazy hits over the next couple of years, but I think the market for people interested in dropping $1000+ for a shoe immediately after release is going to slow down a bit...
It’s funny how many people swear they were into dunks before the recent resurgence - and who’s to say they’re lying? I find it funny that everyone feels the need to post about it. All I know is that when dunks died the first time, I wasn’t able to GIVE away half of the dunks I had in my stash for anything resembling even retail. Paris’ I sold for $1400. Pigeons I sold for $900. Pharrell Dunks I sold for $250. Bucks for $200. Bratrud’s, Rayguns, Patagonia’s, J-Packs, Harley’s, FTC’s, Mafia’s, Ron Burgundy’s, Hemp’s, Tweeds, Marshall’s, Cali’s, De La’s, etc. all for less than $200 each. Several other pairs I ended up selling for $40. Yes, $40 for dunk SBs.
It’s funny, because Dunk’s will ALWAYS have staying power. They’re storied and they’re mythical and Nike has done a good job at ‘protecting their legacy’. But their main driver(s) of hype over the past few years - Travis and Kylie and Virgil - have been spotted wearing almost every *historical* pair of legend...it might be a good time to put it back on the shelves for a while…
I asked y’all a while back - ‘what do you think the market is gonna move onto next?’ and the majority of the responses surprised me - probably half of the 100+ responses said ‘Blazers’. I dunno about you, but I haven’t seen ANY blazers that have caught my eye in the past few months. I’m forever in the AF1 camp...but...who knows? Maybe someone can seed @travisscott with a few pairs of Roshe’s...
