I’m like 1.5 months into my ‘I’m not buying any shoes for the whole of 2021’ and I thought I’d report back on what’s going on with my this goal:
1. I almost slipped up. Once or twice. I own a pair of those @martinerose Monarchs that fit a bit tight and saw a pair that was a half size up for dumb cheap. I bid on that pair (planning to sell my slightly smaller size), but lost by 50 cents. So, crisis averted. No big deal.
2. I allowed myself a pair of AM 90 DQM retros for the year (should they release and IF I can get them for a reasonable price). This hasn’t yet materialized, but I think it’s ok because it’s my favorite pair of all time and I talk about it ALL THE GODDAMN TIME. Someone already called me out for it, though, so, you know, I kinda felt guilty (but not really).
3. Yesterday the final pair I purchased in 2020 arrived - these @jbalvin Jordan 1’s...why’d it take so long to get to me? They were shipped directly from Colombia (I’ll save the full story for another time soon - shout out to @dirugo1 for the hookup)
My dude at Nike still hits me on the regular for steals he comes across and it’s EXTREMELY tempting. I think getting stuff at half-retail is OK...as long as I pay for it and it’s delivered next year 😂
Things I’ve noticed about my mentality:
4. I’m not falling for the hype behind anything right now (other than the AM90s).
5. I’m enjoying the shoes I already own. I’ve been wearing shoes that haven’t seen the light of day in years, if ever. I still have a handful of DS shoes that haven’t yet met pavement, but I’m actually excited about them (instead of just copping what’s next)
6. I feel a bit distanced from the ‘culture’.
7. I’ve been using the ‘want’ feature on GOAT so I can start putting a bit of a cap on my expectations. Instead of eating EVERYTHING at the buffet when the year ends, I can now put it all into perspective.
Anyway, this year is more about being a creator (hello world) than it is being a consumer (goodbye mindless sneaker purchases) for me.
Ever tried something like this before?
