There’s this show on Netflix right now called ‘People Just Do Nothing’ and I’m hooked. It’s basically like another version of the formula that made ‘The Office’ so popular - a bunch of delusional people living in an alternate universe revolved around a singular, ridiculous, premise. PJDN is a British show and it’s about a group of guys hoping their pirate radio station ‘Kurupt FM’ takes off. I spent a year in high school in Great Britain, so I have a strange affinity for UK street culture. I love it. And it’s fun as a sneaker guy because there are PLENTY of Air Maxes and Nike and Polo gear to be spotted throughout the show (mostly Air Maxes). Anyway, most of the people I’ve told about it don’t care for it, but I’m totally into it.
And my affinity for that same culture portrayed might also be why I really like all of the stuff that UK grime artist Skepta has been doing with Nike over the past few years…and these new Tailwind 5’s that just dropped are no exception. The 97’s, BW Maxes, Deluxe’s, Shox TLs are all dope and they’re all unique...but they all ALSO seem to hit sales racks here in the states. Why? I wonder how they sell in the UK. Might as well not even release them out here.
If Drake or Ye or Travis Scott ‘designed’ these - would they not sell out instantly and hit crazy resale? It’s crazy to me that people (yes, even me) buy things off of the co-sign. Like...regional music tastes determine how popular a shoe is or is not. Even if it’s the same shoe.
Like...think if these were called the ‘Drake’ 97’s in the US but called the Skepta 97’s in the UK - instant sell out with ridiculous resale or still sales racks?
