Going to Nike Outlets used to be a fun time…hoping to come up on something you had your eyes on for a while for a cheap price was a right of passage.
A few years ago I got turned off by the crazy lines at my local (San Leandro - I know it’s a clearance store) that I just stopped going during normal times - the only times I’d hit it up would be like noon on a Wednesday…
Anyway, I went to my new local yesterday - the Folsom Nike outlet - and was reminded of when I was a kid and bought OG Penny IIs here, which they had full size runs of for $39.99. But I don’t know what the hell is going on now because every single item they had on the hash wall had a price tag of RETAIL or HIGHER…those Zoomfly next % whateverthehells show a $250 retail on GOAT, yet the price tag on the box showed $260. They even had a $700 Retail Nike Considered jacket on the rack for $700…who the hell goes to a Nike outlet with intentions on paying $700 for a jacket or even retail for shoes with ripped boxes? wtf?
Outlets used to be a place to snag deals and be surprised by random pairs that’d show up and to just hunt. They’d move through a ton of inventory every week…
Since when did the Nike outlet become a retail store with damaged goods? Who wants to buy shoes for retail with the box tops ripped off? If this is the new normal I’m happy to say I won’t be setting foot in any Nike outlet going forward…
