After yesterday’s post with me bitching about the outlets - a Nike employee reached out to me…not as like a Nike employee but as a friend.
He told me “the reason Nike claims they are doing this is because people are taking advantage of it. They’d go to an outlet and scoop up anything with a $9.99 or $29.99 sticker, ‘lose’ the box and receipt, then bring the shoes to a Nike retail store to return them, where Nike would give them a gift card for retail of the item.”
To which I questioned “why wouldn’t Nike just require the receipt (and/or record of the purchase in the Nike+ account)?”
We came to no satisfying conclusion.
These pics were sent to me by @historyoverthehype - wall after wall of $34.99 monarchs followed by a typical scene at the San Leandro clearance store - whenever an employee would emerge from the back with a fresh batch of stock - everyone swarms around to see if they can snag a steal.
Anyway, I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in my frustrations. The good news is that it’s forcing me to rethink my sneaker consumption addiction 😂
