When I was a kid, I read somewhere that Lisa Leslie (who in the world was @lisaleslie ?) scored 101 points in 16 minutes (!!!). My mind was blown. I was scoring like 4-6 points PER GAME and I knew I wasn’t very good, but even the BEST players I knew were scoring only 15-20 per game. And Jordan was scoring around 30 points per game…but 101 points in 16 minutes…I didn’t even see how it was possible. I remember one time I played against my cousin and his friend (two against one) and I scored 72 points but it took the better part of 3 hours.
I’ve never been big into the WNBA - not for any reason other than the fact that I just never owned a TV with cable - and I never liked to put in the effort to learn about a new league after I, at least, understood the major ones…I only sort of follow the NBA (from a distance), and I only follow one team (Warriors…and…from a distance).
I don’t know where or how or when I pulled this card - the Lisa Leslie ‘rookie card’ above on the left - but I’ve kept it protected in my card box for years. I don’t think it’s worth anything, but I don’t care, I just thought it was really cool to have a card of anyone who scored 101 points in 16 minutes. What’s the most Jordan scored? 63 points? Psh.
Anyway, I saw Nike is dropping this Lisa Leslie inspired dunk (from her career with the LA Sparks) and I gotta say that THIS is a dope use of Nike’s impact…and it’s so low-hanging I’m kind of confused as to why it hasn’t been done before. And I’m all for it. Maybe we can get an IG petition going for folks to campaign for a @staley05 model next?
