A few thoughts on this whole John Geiger vs. Nike lawsuit…
#1 I don’t know much about this guy so don’t have much for him. Not that it matters, but I’ve seen claim after claim after claim of him ripping designs off of lesser-known designers. And I don’t think that’s cool. I’m pretty sure he blocked me a few years back.
#2 I’m still not totally sure why Nike decided to go after him. With all of the other companies that have been biting Nike, I don’t think his stuff is all that close to Nike’s (compared to those they let slide) and I don’t understand what Nike gains from shutting him down.
#3 I have to respect the fact that he’s been sticking with it. I probably would have folded right from the get-go. Even if I knew I was in the right. I ain’t got the kind of money to fight a behemoth like Nike.
But…like…again...why does Bape get the pass but Geiger gets sued? Or what Hender Scheme has done? Trade dress on the Hender Scheme is legitimately THE EXACT SAME THING, right? I genuinely don’t understand but I genuinely want to understand where the line of ‘acceptable’ (from the point of view of Nike) is…
I mean, is there an ‘acceptable’ line? Or is it just…’this guy will probably fold before BAPE does so let’s go after him’…?
