No joke - about 5 weeks ago I hit my dude at Nike HQ to see if he could find any interesting info about Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore for me. No luck. So Moore’s passing was a bit of a shock. Especially since he’s so low profile. But for whatever reason - whether intentional or not - we all see a billion pictures of the shoes they designed but never see any pics of them. Is that what makes a good designer? People and companies have legitimately built whole economies on top of the sneakers these two have designed and, IMO, the vast majority of us wouldn’t know who they were if they were standing right next to us.
Amongst others, Moore designed the AJ1 & the Dunk, and Kilgore designed the AF1, and both worked on the AJ2. 40 years later and these shoes are STILL in EXTREMELY high demand, despite the fact that ‘fashion’ as a concept comes and goes.
I wanted to make a post about them because I see a lot of territorialism with sneakers…some people might call it gatekeeping…whatever you want to call it. It doesn’t matter. But I just wanted to reiterate the fact that NO ONE PERSON is responsible for the foot coverings we all hold so near and dear to our heart(s). We could say…Tinker and Moore and Kilgore made them, Jordan and the athletes made them great, and Stockx made them expensive (lol). Sneakers, just like anything really dope, are really a collaborative effort…IMO
Anyway, I was too late to give Peter Moore his flowers, but can we tag as many sneaker designers as we know in the comments here to let them know we appreciate them (I want to follow them ALL).
I’ll start with one of the few I follow…
