This ‘project’ started a few months back, when I saw a pair of those Sacai Vapor Waffles with a botched dye job on Mercari for dumb cheap. I wasn’t even looking for them, they just caught my eye and my wheels started spinning… I copped em at $100 shipped…
The idea of a ‘magpie’ themed sneaker took hold on one of my many solo runs through the neighborhood in Sacramento. I would frequently listen to @jeffstaple on ‘the business of hype’ and would hear him talk a bit about the inspiration behind his pigeon dunks. It made me think about what I would do if Nike gave me the chance to apply a ‘Sacramento’ theme to any of their silhouettes. So I started thinking about birds in general. Now, I’m not the type to notice birds, but these are some dope looking birds. Dark blue, gold, black, white, even some pearlescent greenish-purple. Magpies were everywhere on my runs.
I ran the idea through IG and everyone seemed to like it…so I hit up @marrio_restores (another Sacramento-ian) and he got to work. It took a little while, but he just got them back to me and I couldn’t be happier.
It’s funny because the shape of this particular shoe makes me think of a magpie anyway - it’s got this super long tail and it just *works* IMO. What do you think?
