#NBAOneDay Subset #3: ‘(W)NBA One Day’
I approached @sneakerdave with the idea of a card set and we talked for a few minutes before agreeing upon an idea…I was transfixed by his collection of 90’s and 00’s women’s Nike basketball shoes…he had a really dope collection of some of the earlier ones and was quick to send me images of the actual shoes he had in his hands…
When I asked him what he wanted the cards to look like, he referred me to a bunch of old Nike magazine ads he had saved throughout the years and my memory was kicked into gear immediately.
I went out to a bunch of parks around my neighborhood and started taking pictures…hoping to catch the right combination of light, shade, and shadow…and I think we came up with a pretty phenomenal canvas…We chose 5 shoes from the bunch and went with it.
Coming up with the backs of the cards was a bit difficult for me, and I went through several iterations before I hit a wall. I approached longtime NT OG (IG) @verano_frio (aka Norcalballgirl23), whose passion for the WNBA is matched by none. She came with some INCREDIBLE descriptions and, of course, @sonsofblackmaria came with the original ‘Lil Rascals’ comic-book style scenes…
Overall, a small glimpse into a world that is very rarely mentioned…I hope we’ve done these ballers some measure of justice of a tribute…
These cards don’t have any fancy effects on them - they’re meant to look (and feel) like actual print ads. Overhead on creating these wasn’t nearly as steep as the fancy ones, so that’s why we have them at a lower price point…
