So I wrote the majority of this post on Kanye before his latest trip off the rails (which, IMO, started as another massive TROLL move)...but doesn't really change my point all that much...
----
I know a lot of people have said a lot of things about this whole 'Kanye wants out of Adidas' situation...and...I suppose...even if you don't like him...how should the narrative go?
Yeah, I get it. Corporations provide services. And products. And this and that. Yeah, cool. And they're neat and all that. Great. But they're also soulless entities that don't give a hoot about anyone or anything in the path of them making money. The gov't gives them the same 'rights' as they do people, and most of them pay less in federal taxes than your average American (google 'does nike pay federal income tax')...
I'm not an idiot. I know that Adidas gave Kanye all kinds of resources to turn his dreams into a reality. And IMO, they did a very good job (from a consumers standpoint). I also know that many of these corporations give a lot of creators ALL kinds of resources to turn their dreams into a reality. But if, as he stated, they weren't listening to HIS creative vision? Y'all think he's beholden to the corp?
I know this dude seems to be all over the place...I had to unfollow him (again) during this last trip off the rails cuz I genuinely do not care...but I've got a lot more empathy for individuals than I do corporations. Even if those individuals can (more or less) be considered to be corporations.
I can imagine that this 'Adidas' situation stems from a very innocuous disagreement...I just very rarely tend to side with the corporation. If you're siding with the corporation in any situation that involves an individual...I'd be curious to understand why...is it because of your hate for said individual? Or your hate of his attention-whore ways? Or do you honestly believe that these corporations can really hold up the notion of 'morality'?
