A pretty fascinating article on @boardroom talking about Patrick Ewing and how Nike missed out on his contract surfaced a couple of weeks back...If you're interested I'd suggest giving it a gooble
They wanted Ewing (and Barkley) to represent their 'Force' line, and were subsequently going to give him a shoe called the 'E Force' (not to be confused with the 'Ewing Effect')...but the legendary Peter Moore, who designed the line with Ewing in mind ALSO had a significant hand in this:
"“(Moore) looks at the room and goes, ‘I don’t know if we should sign Patrick Ewing or not. I do know one thing: I know that I don’t want to be the guy that’s gonna call up Michael Jordan and tell him, ‘We just signed Patrick Ewing for $250,000 a year more than what we paid you — and we have you under contract for four more years at that price.'”"

Pretty cool thing, too, because if Ewing DID sign with Nike, you can bet your ass we wouldn't have gotten a @caponennoreaga x @ewingathletics shoe!
