Beyond the initial shock, seeing stuff like this just makes me feel very privileged. Not privileged in the sense that 'I have cool shoes', but privileged in the fact that I could say with 100% confidence - f*ck those shoes. None of it is all that important to me (any more). I know that these brands have a lot of us in a *mental* and *emotional* chokehold, and I know it's taken me the better part of 20 years to be able to say with absolute confidence - f*ck those shoes. I can find things to love about most shoes, but THANK GOD I have lived enough life to know that at the end of the day - there are MUCH more important things in the world than shoes.
I remember this one time I was with @danposite at some second-hand store on the lower east side, and we saw a pair of beat Royal Blue Jordan 1's on the rack and Dan went to grab them and this dudes super-aggressive arm came out of nowhere and snatched them up right in front of him...I thought dude was about to throw hands. It made *no* sens to me. It was shocking, to me, to see someone acting so aggressive over an inanimate object, but not something I didn't see a million times thereafter.
I’m trying to imagine what the ‘employee meeting’ after this incident is going to look like. Is it going to be the warehouse bosses reprimanding people for getting involved? Are they going to be reprimanding people for *not* getting involved? What is Nike going to say to the higher-ups at the warehouse? Will there be security employees with guns walking around patrolling the area now? It all just seems so…stupid. And petty. And absolutely *not worth whatever it is.
It also reminds me of that old SI cover - ‘your shoes or your life.’ Is any of this *really worth it?@solesupremacy should bring back those shirts ‘Life > Shoes’
