Is this really how people look at this situation?
I like to look at situations like this more in terms of the components that converged to make something incredible happen, and not one persons sole contribution as being the singular force that drove it’s success. It took a so-far-impossible-to-recreate VAST CONVERGENCE OF money, talent, design, media, manufacturing prowess, coordination and LUCK to make something like this happen. As do *most* incredible things.
Is Jordan amazing? Without a doubt. But we’ve heard that story a hundred thousand times over and continue to hear it with every single sneaker release every single day of our lives. As many of us have heard a MILLION times over.
Do I think Jordan would say that Nike ‘took advantage of (him)’? I do not.
Do I think MJ would approve of this movie? I do.
Jordan Brand was a company and ethos built around the excellence of one person - but it likely took hundreds (if not tens of thousands) of people to lead that company to the successful place that it currently resides.
Do people really think Jordan could have built this on his own, without any help, while also leading the Bulls to 6 titles? Do people really think MJ should have spent his off-court time sketching sneaker designs and learning how to stitch shoes together to build a cultural cornerstone? GTFO. Did MJ win 6 rings playing 1 on 5? Or did he win those rings with a TEAM? In order to build *anything* of substance, a TEAM of people is necessary. We’ve all seen a bunch of movies about MJ, but how many have we seen about his team?
I guess this is why they say...stay on IG and be depressed...or head on over to twitter to feel angry.
