(9/?) Another month goes by and still…nothing. It is now January…and, according to the terms of our agreement, I should have had my sample done by mid to late October. But still…we’ve got nothing. From the end of October until January, I had seen several iterations of Bored Ape sneakers through social media: RTFKT dropped a teaser, several celebrities ‘aped in’ and showed their customs (Tyrese Halliburton debuted a custom pair, Mache debuted a pair) and now Adidas had announced their partnership with BAYC. If we had hit our target date - we would have beat ALL of them to market. But because we didn’t get our sample in the time period promised - even if we got our sample done today - we would STILL be late.
I text Joe and say ‘I think it’s time for a refund, please let me know what I need to do to get my money back’. He calls me, shares his disappointment and tells me he’ll start the refund process.
Within a couple of days I get an email from him asking if they finish up the sample within a week would we be ok with that? I said ‘sure, might as well’…what have I got to lose?
Surprisingly, I get an email from Joe within a few days showing me the images you see above…and…I dunno…it’s definitely not what I expected…but at least it was something. I figure we can work with it. He asks me if we’d be willing to ‘salvage the project’ if they’re able to finish the sample by the end of the week, and I realize I now have to choose my words very carefully…
