I know y’all get super mad at SNKRS app and all the websites that don’t let you checkout on certain pairs, but have you ever gotten really pissed off at a sneaker store or while trying to buy shoes in person? I want to hear about it…lol
I like to think of myself as a pretty even keeled dude…I don’t get mad easily and I really like to give most people the benefit of a doubt. But I was thinking of this time I went into a sneaker spot in Sunset Park in like 2009 and I just had to laugh…it was right across from that church on like 57th…maybe someone knows the name?
Anyway - I saw this pair of R4 Shox in the window that I had been eyeing…black and red I believe…the dude who came to help me didn’t speak English all that well…or…maybe he wasn’t used to seeing a white dude in the shop…I dunno. But I asked him for my size (9) and he brought me an 8. Told me that there was no size 9, but they fit large. I tried them on, he wasn’t exactly lying, but they were still a bit snug. I asked him if he had the size up…an 8.5 and he went in the back and took an extremely long time. A few minutes later he emerged with the “8.5”.
Him: “I got the 8.5. No box.” he tells me as he hands me the shoe.
Me: “Um, ok.”
I try them on. And…they’re still just a tad snug. I take the shoe off…notice it’s laced the same as the last pair I tried on…and when I take a look at the size tag I notice it’s been clean cut off. Like with scissor marks and everything. I look over at the guy and he quickly looks the other direction.
And then it hits me.
Dude didn’t have an 8.5. Hi figured he could fool me. He took the 8, cut the tag, then tried to tell me they were an 8.5 (which would also explain why he didn’t have the box).
Ain’t no one finna trick me! I huffed and puffed and walked my ass right on up outta there and took my business elsewhere. And I never returned.
I think about that way too often. Why was I so mad? LOL
