Sneakers & pack openings - a perfect RECIPE for FOMO?
I really been trying to figure out what to write about this whole thing and trying to figure out how I actually feel about it, and I’ve got really just a handful of (un)related thoughts:
1. I’ve been trying to draw parallels between card collecting and sneaker collecting for the better part of 20 years - see SNEAKER GRADING and SNEAKER CARDS a la ME and MY HOMIES. But it’s good to *finally* see some validation, even if I shoulda been tapped for this.
2. I think there are *so* many cool ways to do this, and hopefully this was a test run…I’d like to see some others getting involved in this idea (HIT ME UP!!!)
3. For all intents and purposes, it seems like people had fun with it.
BUT:
1. I find it fascinating that Ronnie convinced y’all to drop $195 on a pair of shoes SIGHT UNSEEN…caught up in the FOMO?
2. …Furthermore, I find it fascinating that some of y’all bought some ASICS GEL LYTE III’s in the lords good year of 2023.
It will be interesting to see if card market dynamics start to take place…ie: pop reports and prices of unopened boxes going for significantly more than those that have been opened…
Personally, if I bought a box (I didn’t), I’d likely just hold it with intentions of selling it in 20 years or whatever. I got zero interest in rocking ANY GL3 in 2023 and this this was one of the more gimmicky releases of the year.
