Yea, I get that big names bring people in. I don’t get how any of these big names have anything to do with sneakers, tho. Might as well bring in @kimkardashian or @therock if you’re just looking for attendees, right? I bet their fee is out of reach.. how much do you think each of these guests got paid to attend?
As I get older it’s hard for me to accept that the spectacle of the hobby really has nothing to do with the hobby itself. The whole concept arrived much later than I did and it’s not something I’m familiar with. Back in the day, iirc, these ‘special guests’ at these shows were respected collectors or those who had something interesting to offer to enthusiasts…now…it’s just like a Disneyland for teenagers filled with whoever is bubbling up on Spotify..
I hate the vibe that I’m giving off with this post (old man yelling at the clouds), but I’ve got to commend them on bringing in millions of more eyes (and dollars) than I could probably even comprehend…the spectacle is a tale as old as time..
