Took me a while to get around to wearing these…I think they sat in my closet for more than a year. I got them in a tradeblock trade but wanted to preserve them for as long as possible because Virgil.
I talked a lot of shit about a lot of Virgil’s designs, but I really liked the midsole on these so posted a real positive one around the time these dropped.
And that time…it was also the time he reached out to @scollard23 and @goodbirger and gave them their due, showing appreciation for their work and their passion. I kinda wished he saw the props I was giving him on the shoes but my account was just too small.
And then dude passed away. And I was sad in the idea of like…a young father leaving his family behind. Which is always sad.
A couple of weeks later, I was talking to a friend I hadn’t seen in years and he said to me ‘now that you and Virgil are buds, are you too big for us little people?’ And I didn’t understand it. He then sent me a screenshot that showed Virgil had liked my post. And I didn’t see it at the time, but I was stoked because that meant he did see it.
And, yea, it’s dumb. I’m a grown ass many celebrating the double-tap validation of another man…but…it’s real. And I don’t care.
So that’s why I think it was so hard for me to wear these. I just wanted to hold onto that for myself: that single millisecond that Virgil and I were on the same page.
But today…it’s a new day. And I’m wearing these bitches til they done.
