Ever since I went to @sneakercon and @sneakerexpousa a couple of months ago, I’ve noticed a significant shift in my content feed. Instead of a bunch of posts about AI and crypto and sneakers and The Office, a massive portion of my new feed is content from these events.
I don’t know if it’s nefarious or whatever, maybe just geolocation data used to really put a nail in my content coffin, but I do find myself watching a bit of it. But I’m never really connecting with it. So it’s weird.
A number of those sneaker content creators approached me with cameras at these events, and so far, I’ve only seen one actually post a clip of one of the discussions (@prvt.selection - when I was 3 beers deep), but everyone else passed and I think that’s because most of it just flies over my head.
One dude came up to me with his camera with some cute girl filming and said to me ‘what shoe do you absolutely hate right now?’ and I legitimately couldn’t think of one. Not one. A few seconds of awkward silence later and he says ‘what about pandas?’ And I responded with ‘nah man how could anyone who respects shoes hate a black and white classic?’. He packed up his mic and bounced. Clearly I wasn’t his target demographic.

I caught this video yesterday…about ‘grails’…and again…I couldn’t think of a single one: not a single pair I’m looking for, hoping for, pining for. Plenty I love, but grails? Nah. Maybe…once you get to a certain point…you learn to appreciate it all. Or…none of it. But it all feels pretty even for me. No massive highs, no massive lows, just…consistent appreciation. Grails, for me, no longer exist as a concept. I’ve owned everything I’ve wanted to own…and none of it brought me the closure I wanted. Isn’t that what a grail is for? What about you? Are you still into the concept of a grail?
