Trump at sneaker con - a few quick thoughts:

1. What kind of world are we living in where politicians think Sneakercon is the move (and it actually *is*)

2. Funny how the minute Trump entered the NFT arena and his NFTs ‘sold out’, the NFT market just about rolled over and died. Apparently his ‘Never Surrender’ shoes sold out. Crash incoming for sneakers!

3. I don’t have a visceral reaction to the sight of this guy, but if I saw him at sneaker con I couldn’t imagine doing anything but keep it moving. One of my favorite rappers, @e40 apparently walked by my table at Sneakercon last summer and I didn’t even notice him, nor did I seek him out after finding out. If I’m at Sneakercon I’m there for sneakers or sneaker-adjacent reasons…I’m not there for any other reason.

4. Sneaker conventions have become a carnival and these ‘special guests’ have become the attractions.

5. Picturing Trump describing those shoes to his designer(s) was probably just the most Trump thing ever. “I want them to be gold. Really gold like a tremendous amount of gold and a T, for ‘Trump’, just a magnificent T on the side and some Stars and Stripes and maybe some blood, to represent the blood that real patriots will shed over me.”

6. How much y’all wanna bet these ‘America First’ sneakers are made in China?

7. I know people been harsh on the sneaker influencers in that pic, and I’ve had my issues with a couple of those dudes, but I’d rather not chalk it up to malice and would instead look at it like this: Around 30 years ago my Aunt kept telling me that she met Bill Clinton. ‘Oh my god I met Bill Clinton’ and ‘he’s so wonderful’ and I really couldn’t care less but then one day I bit…I was like ‘so tell me what happened’ and she told me this story that amounted to Bill Clinton walking like 10 feet away from her in a crowded area and I was like ‘but how is that ‘meeting him?’’ And she didn’t really have an answer for that. I don’t know what it is about celebrity culture that has normally rational people forgetting what logic is, but that’s how I’ll choose to look at that pic of those dudes.

*PS I’m super proud of this tabloid-style heading I thought up…
