I remember in like the early early 00’s I was thinking ‘will they ever release old versions of Jordans with updated tech?’ Almost like the Protro stuff but more like…same uppers with updated tooling.
The answer came a few years later when Jordan Brand dropped a few of these ‘.5’ hybrids… this one (on the bottom) is called the 2.5, so, a mashup between the 2 and the 3. And…they did a good job IMO. The problem with this series obviously being the fact that no one had any kind of nostalgic (or storytelling) connection to it.
I like the simplistic idea of that new 2/3 mashup - 2 upper on a 3 sole (looks way better than the AJ 1 with the 2 sole - 2 sole just isn’t a great sole)…will we see a 3 upper on a 4 sole? Or a 4 upper on a 5 sole, etc etc etc
Seeing it gives me appreciation for all of those early ‘hybrid’ experiments JB underwent during the mid 00’s. A handful hit, but most didn’t…and I think that had everything to do with storytelling and nothing to do with design.
