This hits the nail on the head for most, I think, but I don’t think the lines are so easily delineated. Most ‘serious’ collectors I know (not ALL) want to collect but also want to look fresh. And most people I know who don’t consider themselves collectors but only want to look fresh take pride in their collections…the lines between sneaker wearing and sneaker collecting are VERY blurry imo…
Add, to the mix, the notion than sneakers are much more perishable than other collectibles and you’ve got a recipe for a lot of very confused consumers.
For me - the rerelease of this shoe isn’t that crazy. Almost every OG pair I’ve seen (of this shoe) is in some advanced stage of decay. I feel for the ‘collectors’ that dropped stupid bread on these but also the passage of time made the reality of holding these indefinitely an impossibility…
