When I was a vendor at Sneakercon like 2 weeks ago, I noticed that everyone and their mother was looking for a pair of Jordan 4 SBs…and it was kinda dumb, because I watched like 500 people pick up a single pair of Jordan 4 SBs on the table next to me and NO ONE BOUGHT THEM. Why?

Is it because the prices on them are ridiculous?
Is it because they are alluring but not in a way that necessitates ownership?
Is it because we have been conditioned to want something we just can’t have?

In my mind, the Jordan 4 SB resides more as a ‘what could have been’ instead of a ‘what it is’.

Thinking of the way these corporations roll out releases and the ridiculousness of the emotional rollercoaster we all go through (desire, logic, reality, etc.), it made me and @sonsofblackmaria think of lottery scratchoff tickets and how they provide the same kind of risk/reward mechanism…it’s something we don’t have to indulge in, and very few people actually get the payoff, but they exist to rope us in.

So we wanted to put together a set of cards related to the ridiculousness of the release cycle and the hype that seems to surround certain models that are ubiquitous but still highly irrational. Kinda like a lottery scratch off ticket. We wanted folks to own a part of the (ludicrous) experience…without having to explicitly drop $500 in order to own the physical product itself.

I’m dropping a handful of these @sneakerexpo today…stop by booth #2902 to purchase. $10.
