Because of my complaints with eBay and StockX and the perceived pilfering of the ‘community’ that I care about - I’ve received responses pointing me towards new marketplaces without all the stuff I hate. One of the comments pointed me towards @anotherlane_ created by @sneaker_galactus . What’s funny - I’ve been following @sneaker_galactus for the better part of 5 years. I remember when he started @anotherlane_ , and I remember sharing some of the shoes he was selling...

It had me thinking...why haven’t I seen any of his posts lately? And by ‘lately’, I mean at least the last 9 months. I seriously don’t recall a single post of his coming across my feed in AT LEAST the last 9 months...

It brought to mind the IG algo - and why it’s extremely important...although, it may have some bugs. I follow roughly 700 people and hashtags...So when I’m sitting there scrolling my feed - How many posts do I actually look at over the course of a day? Is it anywhere near 700? How many people do I follow that post once a day? What about 20+ times a day? How many ads do I come across on a daily basis (by the looks of it - it’s every FOURTH post)? There is a limited amount of real estate on my feed - there is only so much content I can ‘consume’ throughout a session - how do they make sure I get the most ‘bang for my buck’ when I’m on the app? That’s kinda the point of the algo...

When I first got onto IG - I thought the rule was that ‘if someone follows you, you gotta follow them back’. So I started following them back and rarely ever spent any time scrolling because I quickly realized that 99% of my feed was of people’s selfies with Snapchat dog ear filter...It was the worst. Apparently the IG algo is working to figure out the types of posts you prefer and engage with, etc. But again - why wouldn’t it show me @sneaker_galactus ’ posts? Maybe a bug? Maybe if there were some dog ears on the shoes? Who knows...

Anyway...if you’re here and you see my posts on a regular basis, I’m happy you’re still following and commenting. You know never know when a software bug is gonna drop you from the algo...

BTW head on over to @anotherlane_ and @sneaker_galactus and take a look!
