Despite the broken promises…was the multi-billion dollar effort worth it?
As a kid, I would have kicked and screamed against this…as an adult with kids if my own, it becomes understandable.
Unconscionable? Sure. But. I’ve gotta wonder. Was it worth it?
Imagine you’re presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity that you know will require you to stretch the truth.
Imagine someone offers you a chance to change your life and the trajectory of your kids and your grandkids grandkids lives. And all it’ll take is the bending of one simple truth…can you or can’t you promise the impossible?
When Josh told me he was going to start a company that was going to authenticate every pair of shoes with 100% accuracy - I remember saying to myself - ‘no, you’re not.’ And then…he did. I don’t know if he believed it was possible (the authentication piece - NOT the building a business piece), but it looks like it was…at least…99% possible. And not only did he - he built it into a multi-billion dollar company. Based on an impossible promise.
If it were me in that position - would I have been able to do it?
I mean, for all intents and purposes - besides us - does anyone even care? StockX is going to go on making money while we move on with our lives, right?
So I guess…what I’m asking…is whether or not a half true promise to the sneaker world is worth all the money in the world? Would you make that promise for X amount of money? Would I?
