Kind of inspired by @mjo23dan ‘s last post…I find myself in a similar place. Not really good nor bad, but the idea of a personal top 10 list this year just totally passed me by. Although I like what @nicekicks did - they polled 100 sneakerlebrities - none of it really seemed to apply to me personally… not much, sneakers wise, really moved me. Maybe that’s just part of getting older.
I don’t know what happened exactly, but around the time I went to Japan I realized fully that I only have 2 feet and not enough space in my luggage for more. That kinda became a theme for me since returning…I’ve got sneakers in every corner of my home, and not enough days in (a) year to wear it all.
I think I’ll look back on 2024 as the year logic won out over me and sneakers. I stopped buying everything I liked because, I mean, why? IG more or less became an afterthought, and the pairs I had been collecting just to collect became more of a burden than a source of joy…
I constantly ask myself - ‘how can you be a part of a consumptive culture without actually consuming?’ - and I don’t even know if it’s possible. If my extremely poorly performing IG metrics are any indication…it’s going to ve a challenge.
All that to say…I don’t know where to go from here. I want to clear out about another 200 pairs and then, maybe, I can think a bit more clearly. But as it stands I’ve got boxes and bags all over my office just waiting to be dealt with…
Above all that, it feels good. It feels good to no longer feel this strange magnetic pull. It feels good to finally be in control. Not dragging anyone or anything but the amount of time and money I put into some of these things…it feels great to finally let go.
For 2025…let’s see where this goes!
