So the other day @benmweiss from @syntilay AI studio reached out to me and asked if I wanted to give their AI 3D foot scanning proceed a whirl, and, being a sneaker guy, I’m always into checking out new sneaker tech…
I once tried doing this LIDAR scan of an Air Max 1 and it was kind of a pain in the buttcheeks - it took forever and didn’t come out very well…so…I was kind of prepping myself for a painful process.
Truth be told a the process to fit me for this pair was pretty damn easy - it actually made me think of like a digital brannock device (those metal shoe size things that used to be in every shoe store in America but have pretty much disappeared from the face of the earth) - I took a few pics of my feet (socks ON) against a sheet of and that was it…a few weeks later a package from @zellerfeld arrived on my doorstep.
Initial thoughts - packaging feels luxurious and it has quite a bit of weight to it. The slides themselves are beefy, the details are dope and the difference in density is really what makes them feel different…there’s almost like a light, super cushy layer of poly in the footbed but it’s only on the footbed - the rest of the sandal is solid. Last slide shows the differential between my adilette 22’s against the syntilays.
I can tell you that I will likely be wearing these shoes around the house for a while as I think they’re going to last for quite some time…! I think this type of stuff has a pretty bright future especially with big brands starting to experiment.
Cool process and thanks to @benmweiss for letting me give it a spin!
