After a bit of back and forth, I realized that In order to get an accurate quote, I had to give a final set structure with final production numbers...so this is where my spreadsheet skills came into play. I built the set in such a way that I remember sports card sets being structured when I was a kid. Nothing more than base cards and insert cards…
I wanted to do something simple, but not too simple. I chose to do a base set and added 4-5 insert cards (depending on how you look at it). There are about 69 base cards and there are about 41 insert cards...the insert runs vary but overall there is one insert for every 7 base cards. Simple. Effective.
The base cards of the set are exactly that - base cards - the ‘official’ shoes Kobe wore ‘officially’ during his playing career. From the Adidas EQT 97 he wore in the dunk contest up until the Kobe XI ‘Fade to Black’, the vast majority of these shoes Kobe wore at one time or another on the court. There are around 25 silhouettes that Kobe ‘officially’ wore and endorsed, so we did a couple colorways of each to give us 68 base cards. There isn’t much rhyme or reason to the colorways we chose - there are literally hundreds - if not thousands - of colorways of these 25 models so we picked a bunch of random colors. It took us a few weeks to get to this number - 68 cards - in a way that made sense to pack pulling.
The insert cards - I took a different route...I’ll show you a couple of those in the next post...
Also - I had to enlist some help with the illustrations, so I found a dude @nakulllll_ who painstakingly rebuilt nearly every Kobe silhouette from scratch...
