I’ve only been to the @solesupremacy shop once or twice...probably 6 or 7 years ago. I’ve driven by it a handful of times, but never really spent much time in there as the majority of what they sold was on eBay...I was mostly only there to pick up on auctions I won.

One time, I was waiting in line, and I saw @sneakerslut23 ask another person behind the counter whether or not a specific pair of shoes included extra laces and, if so, which set. Based on what I observed, I believe it was part of his legit check process but I could totally be wrong...he could have just been prepping a shipment or even simply just asking a question. I have no idea. But I was always kind of struck by that. Extra laces. I have nowhere NEAR that level of knowledge on new releases. When I’m buying...I don’t pay any attention whatsoever to the extra laces or the stuffing paper or the tissue paper or even the boxes. The only thing I ever really care about is the shoe. If there’s an extra set of laces that I like...ok...maybe I’ll swap them out.

I got a message from a guy yesterday who told me that he just interviewed for a position at eBay to be one of their fancy new ‘legit checkers’, and, amongst a few minor disagreements with his second round interviewer he believes he got denied the position because he couldn’t accurately point out an authentic lace tip on a pair of fairly common Jordan 1’s, nor could he accurately name which extra extra EXTRA laces were to be included in another pair of Jordans.

This is the type of stuff I’ve been worried about. If I sell a thousand dollar pair of shoes and they get rejected because the lace tip was melted slightly different than another pair the ‘authenticator’ once saw, I’m going to lose my goddamn mind. I mean - the EASIEST customization technique to any shoe whatsoever is changing the laces. A 99-cent piece of 100+ year old technology is what these authenticators are relying on? This?

Better yet - if a grail I’ve been looking for for 10 years suddenly pops up and I cop and some ‘safety assurance inspector’ deems them ‘fake’ because of the lace-melting technique - I am going to lose my shit.

Am I being ignorant?
