So now that the dust on 2020 has settled - what are your new years ‘sneaker’ resolutions?
On New Years Eve, I spent a great deal of time just sorting and sifting through my sneaker boxes and came to a few back-burner realizations. These are things that I always intuitively knew, but finally decided to confront. Sorting through crate after crate of shoes has convinced me that ‘keeping up with the (Scott) Kardashians’ is more or less over for me. I no longer need to keep up with ‘what’s hot’ and ‘what’s not’ and I am no longer in a position to give any types of damn’s whatsoever about what makes other segments of the market go ‘boom’.
For years, I bought shoes on the fly because my philosophy of ‘even if I don’t rock as much as I’d like I can still sell them for more than they cost right now’ has done me well. This past year, though, has shown me that - because I no longer keep up with *hot* releases and I no longer keep up with what the market is doing - I am no longer in a position to capitalize. That and the fact that this market is COMPLETELY flooded. These companies are releasing more shoes than ever in an attempt to grab as much market share as possible and, consequently, this is causing a HUGE surplus amongst collectors. eBay, GOAT, StockX, etc. - NONE of these marketplaces work for me anymore. Gone are the days of simple P2P transactions...we’ve entered a phase where corporatism has pushed out the little guy. So. I’m pretty much done with the resale market. I’m no longer try to capitalize. Call me a reformed reseller, if you will.
That realization - that I’m no longer interested in keeping up with a small eBay shop for reselling sneakers - has got me thinking...I have, literally HUNDREDS of pairs of shoes that I don’t wear enough of. I need to get some use out of them. I need to get rid of the stuff I don’t care about and I need to use the stuff I do.
So for me...this years sneaker resolution...I’m gonna do my best to purchase exactly ZERO sneakers for the whole year. I copped my final pair of the year (NB 327s) for retail on 12/31 in a bid to help me get through it... what is your sneaker resolution?
